So I took Kalli to the dentist and they told me she has 5 cavities (let me repeat 5!). They want to put her out to do them with an IV, so it is not so hard on her. I keep getting mixed feelings about this whole thing...my mother in law told me a horrific story about a little girl who lived in there neighborhood (here is the short version she went in to get them filled and was under so long she went into a coma and then was in a vegetative state for years). My sister was a dental assistant (until just a few weeks ago) she says it is the easiest way for the little one's. You all know me and I am a mess...my mind gets going and it is not good. So now I am enlisting the help of anyone who has had this done or has an opinion on the whole thing. HELP!!
p.s. she is scheduled to have it done on Feb. 1st and yes I have a call into my pediatrician already to get their advice.

I would go for it. Both of my nieces have done it. It's definately the easiest way to go. Don't worry about it!! She will do great!
Adam has had that done a million times for all his CT scans and MRIs. It's more freaky for the parents than the kids.
On the other hand....those are baby teeth. They're going to fall out anyway. If they're not hurting her, who cares??
I don't know on that one. It would freak me out too. I'm sure that one story was just a freak thing. I don't know what to tell ya.
P.S. I wish I would have known Jett was coaching Junior Jazz. He is in Jack's league and I just saw his name on the schedule.
I would do it. I have to take my kids to the dentist on Tues and I have a feeling we'll be in the same boat. She'll be fine!
How funny, I posted a dentist story the same day. I have had friends who've had to have their kids put out for cavity fillings, everything went just fine. If you trust your dentist then go for it,or you can always go to a different dentist for a second opinion.
Are you having it done at the office or at Primary Children's? I'm a nurse and occasionally work in the dental OR at Primarys. If you're having it done there...it's very safe. Who is your pediatric dentist? E-mail me and let me know. chelsaadamson@hotmail.com. No worries! I've seen a lot worse than 5 cavities.
Listen to Dr. Duffy. I'm sure he'll give you good advice!
eek! I wish I had some advice. Kalli will be fine, poor thing!
If you don't want her under, just ask for the Jack Daniels.
If she does go under, make sure you record her when she starts coming to...it should be quite a comic fest.
Better yet, after she goes under, you have the Jack Daniels.
She will be fine, but it does scare you a little. Cooper has had a couple of cavities and he did really well with just the numbing stuff. But, then he didn't mind going to the dentist either. She might me terrified to go and then it would make sense to put her under. Good luck.
I took the boys today and we're WAY worse off than Kalli. I think we're going to try the numbing/laughing gas first and hope that's enough. Good luck!
My husband who is a dentist (almost orthodontist - Yeah!) says that generally it is a very safe procedure and no need to worry. But if you are worried, it is never a bad idea to get a second opinion especially when a dentist diagnoses that many cavities. If you didn't go to a pediatric dentist, get a second opinion from one. I wish I would have read this earlier because I know Kalli's appointment is in 2 days. Good luck.
